Written Summary:
This video
is a demonstration video by eight different hand to hand combat instructors from
around the USA and UK. The techniques shown are brutal, relatively easy to learn,
and are taught by men who are apparently the real deal. Combat veterans, Special
Forces, Army Rangers, and police officers ( sorry, no Navy Seals in this one ) are
all represented in this group of instructors. Any one of these guys could probably
stack your average barroom with black belt dojo types since these guys all deal in
reality, not fantasy. The instructors on this video are Larry Jordan, Geoff Todd,
Ben Mangels, Steve Mattoon, Robbie Robinson, John Whipp, Michael Janich, and my personal
favorite, Charles Nelson.
The topics covered are principles of self defense
( Jordan ), dealing with weapons ( Todd ), police escort tactics ( Mangels ),
officer assists ( Mattoon ), physical awareness ( Robinson ), chokes and strangles
( Whipp ), knife to empty hand ( Janich ) and an interview with 80+ year old Charles
Nelson, a WWII combat veteran and creator of a uniquely American system of self defense.
If you want to see what toughness looks like, check out Ben Mangels or Charles Nelson.
Even on video, you can sense that you would be much better off to not piss off these
guys. While the techniques shown are good, the secondary advice from these guys
is better. Common sense stuff, true, but true nonetheless.
I have a recommendation
for Paladin. Find Charles Nelson, and get his system of self defense down on video
before he passes away. I have a feeling this guy is a potential gold mine of information.
It would be a shame to let all of that hard won knowledge disappear after he is
gone. We have already lost Rex Applegate. The WWII generation is passing away before
our eyes. Let’s not lose what Charles Nelson could teach us.
