Written Summary:

This is the 2nd video tape of Erik Paulson’s highly regarded work on Leg Locks. In this reviewers opinion this video is right up to par with his 1st tape on Leg Locks (see review #270 for a review of the 1st video). These two video’s together contain more variations and entries into the various leg locks than any other video tapes available. If you want to learn about leg locks and already have a basic understanding of the mechanics of the locks this is the set of tapes that I would recommend the most. The 1st video briefly covers some of the basic mechanics of leg locks however if you don’t already have a strong foundation in leg locks I would 1st start off with either the Andrei Sosnovskikh Sambo Leg Lock Seminar Video (see review #211) or the Roy Harris Leg Lock tape (see review #210). Either of these two video’s, with the Sosnovskikh video giving the consumer the better bang for their buck, would give you a good foundation for learning leg locks.

This 2nd video (as is the 1st) by Mr. Paulson is very fast paced with no wasted time. Viewers will find themselves using the rewind button while trying to practice from either of these tapes. Of course, this is a good thing! I would sooner make use of the rewind button than have a move shown 8 or 10 times just to eat up tape time. A lot of the material on this video has not been seen before on video. The Production quality of this video was either up to par with the 1st tape or slightly better is some areas. Overall the Production quality although not perfect is still very good. The picture and sound is clear. There are some minor distractions during some of the filming, for example during the class footage you can hear the music to a fitness class and actually see some of the participants working out in the reflection of the glass. Again this was a minor distraction at best. The video overall consists of class footage, a small amount of fight footage, Erik with a student one on one and a short interview at the end. This video for the most part was filmed in black and white. The thing that really stands out about both of these video’s is the endless flow from one lock to the next. Mr. Paulson is very smooth in the execution of these locks.

The introduction to the video consists of a clip from a movie with Erik fighting an opponent where you can actually see Mr. Paulson going through some of the various leg locks. This was both unique and entertaining. The lighter side of Erik also came through several times in this video. His class looked to have a very relaxed and enjoyable training atmosphere. The instructional part of the video begins with various ways to catch an opponents kick which leads into a leg submission. Of course Mr. Paulson shows numerous combinations to each lock that he covers. Next he shows different ways to get a leg lock if you have thrown a kick and your opponent has caught your kick. Some of these include the rolling knee bar, a drop behind technique into a kneebar and a straight ankle lock. Also shown is a counter to a side headlock throw with a series of locks completing the counter. Counter to the suplex into a kneebar and a arm drag counter to a knee bar is shown.. The second part of the video consists of leg attacks from the quarter position. These include various ways of turning your opponent over some by attacking both the far and near ankle into a calf crush, knee bar, figure four leg lock, ankle lock and a heel hook. This is all excellent material. Next is a highly informative series of techniques on how to defend and defeat the rear choke. Again this is a excellent series of locks and flows. In conclusion a series of locks are shown on how to defeat your opponent when they are attempting to get the hooks in. After viewing the two Killer Leg Lock video’s I couldn’t imagine Erik having enough material to make a 3rd video, there was just so much information on these two video’s. Who knows maybe Killer Neck Cranks or Killer Armbars is in the works. I honestly do hope that Erik makes another video soon.

Bottom Line: If you want to learn legs locks and various flowing combinations for these locks then BUY this and Mr. Paulson’s 1st video. In this reviewers opinion these are the number 1 leg lock video available today.
