Written Summary:

This video is an introductory look at Jun Fan Gung Fu ( Jeet Kune Do Concepts ) as interpreted by Rick Tucci who is a certified instructor under Dan Inosanto. Mr. Tucci is very skilled and gives the viewer a general, broad based look at fighting in the four ranges of kicking, punching, trapping, and locking ( grappling ). After some very basic JKD footwork drills, Mr. Tucci shows several kicks used in Jun Fan which are all very standard kicks, common to most martial arts. The next section on punching is essentially a quick look at western boxing and the use of different pieces of training equipment including focus mitts, heavy bag, and hanging paper. The trapping section is the longest segment on the tape and probably the most advanced of all the material that is presented. Some of the trapping maneuvers are quite basic and some are fairly advanced. While I do not personally believe in the practicality of complex traps, they are nonetheless interesting to study and learn. The section on locking is very brief with only a few common joint locks shown. Mr Tucci then combines the four ranges into some partner drills and shows the viewer how to move smoothly from one range to the next. The video closes with Mr. Tucci teaching reactio drills in a classroom some to of his students.

This video is designed to be an overview of Jun Fan Gung Fu and is not an attempt to teach a great deal of advanced material. The material presented is quite good and easy to understand. I would recommend this video to beginning martial artists of any style. People with prior exposure to Wing Chun and/or Jun Fan Jeet Kune Do based systems will have seen most of this material before.
