Written Summary:

This video is the second tape in a two part tape series that demonstrates the martial art of Kung Fu San Soo. The instructor is Master Bill Hulsey. This video is quite a bit newer than the previous one in the series but the content, while certainly not identical, is very similar. The strikes, the kicks, the circular motion and the power in these techniques look very similar to the first tape. However, in this video, Mr. Hulsey demonstrates a number of throws, takedowns, and submission ( joint locks ) that were not seen on the previous video.

One thing that makes this tape slightly better than the previous one in this series is that Mr. Hulsey goes into a great deal more detail when he explains both how to the technique and what it is that makes the particular technique work. There is some particularly interesting footwork in this tape but you must be looking for it. There is 10 technique section at the end of the tape called the Num-Pi lessons. According to Mr Husley, very few people know these moves and he is gracious enough to demonstrate ten of these lessons. Mr. Hulsey states that the Num-Pi are primarily about learning to use angles and learning to use your opponent's power against him ( not exactly new stuff to martial artists but always worth seeing and hearing again ).

Just how effective is Kung Fu San Soo on the street since the video is billed as Street Ready. Difficult to say for certain. Certainly, there is tremendous power and momentum in the blows of Kung Fu San Soo. But there were also a few holes in the defense as well and some of the attacks seemed somewhat telegraphic to me. Against most people, I believe that this art would be quite effective. And for that reason, I recommend this tape as a possible buy for martial artists of intermediate to advanced skill IF your tastes run primarily to learning striking skills.
